Hello. Regarding Nancy Huston’s “Lignes de faille” would someone please explain to me what “The novel, about four six-year each the parent of the next one, is not yet published ” means? Thank You.

Hi Virginia!

Sorry, there was a typo there, and admittedly the sentence was not constructed in the best possible way to begin with. What it means to say is that the novel follows four persons who each are six years of age, and who each become the parents of the next one. I hope that makes more sense. And the novel is not published in English yet, as far as I know.

Sorry about the confusion!

The re-write is not much of an improvement. For one thing, the word “each” (singular) cannot be followed by “are”. Why not say “The novel follows four six-year-olds, each of whom grows up to be the next character’s parent.” At least that’s what I think you are trying to say. And even this could probably be improved on after reading the novel. Do people actually get paid for such clumsy writing?

No, didn’t get paid to do this, did it at late hours just for fun and to help people.

Sorry to cause you pain, Sophia.
