Haruki Murakami awarded Franz Kafka literary prize

The internationally popular Japanese author Haruki Murakami has received the Franz Kafka literary prize in Prague. The $10,000 prize was given to the writer for his worldwide appeal that the organizers compared with that of Kafka.

2006 Prix Femina winners announced

The winner of the 2006 Dylan Thomas prize is the Welsh writer Rachel Trezise for her collection of short stories Fresh Apples. The announcement praised her for originality, and compared the work to James Joyce’s Dubliners.

2006 Nike Literary Price Winner Announced

The winner of Poland’s most prestigious literary award, Nike, was awarded last week. The prize was given to Dorota Maslowska for her novel Paw Krolowej (”The Queen’s Peacock”). The work is currently not yet available in English.

2006 Nobel Prize in Literature Announced
